During your son’s time at Westlake Boys High school, he will encounter a phenomenal degree of biophysical, mental and socio-emotional change. This can include the concept of his own identity and for many parents and young men, this can be a challenging time. The school runs a Diversity Group which is a safe space that allows our young men to work through feelings and emotions alongside the school counsellor and staff from the LGBTQ+ community. The forum is one where young men can make informed decisions without coercion or pressure and speak openly about identity and sexuality. However, your son also needs you and your understanding, whether this is support through a temporary period of uncertainty or acknowledgement that his identity is ok with you. You or your son can also contact a School Counsellor for some confidential advice and support.
