Mark Friday 22 September on your calendar and come along after work.
Doors will be open from 6.00pm.
Venue: WBHS Auditorium and Street
Cost is $20 a head and that includes finger food and your first beer or glass of wine.
Please spread the word and encourage your team mates and classmates to attend.
Share the event from the Westlakers Facebook page.

Since 1983, the KBB Music Festival has been showcasing the best in secondary school orchestras, concert bands and stage bands in Auckland. From the small numbers in the original Auckland Secondary Schools Band and Orchestra Festival, the KBB Music Festival has now grown to see over 135 groups taking part from more than 50 schools across the greater Auckland region.
THE 2017 FESTIVAL will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, from the 14th to the 19th August.
FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
“Now in its 33rd year, the KBB Festival has attracted many of New Zealand’s finest young musicians performing in secondary school orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands and chamber orchestras from within the Auckland region. The skills required to perform in ensembles of this nature require personal dedication and time as well as a developing musical understanding and social responsibility through listening to and working with other musicians and musical directors. The Festival is recognized for the quality of the music that students perform which reflects the commitment of both the students and their teachers. Whether you attend as a performer or as a listener, you will come away invigorated and inspired by the musicianship and exhuberance of all participants.” – Trevor Thwaites
Every year, the Academic Council organises a quiz night to raise money for groups of students within our school community. This year, the Academic Council is raising money to create scholarships for students who have dedicated themselves to helping others with their school work. On the night, teams of 5-10 will answer challenging trivia questions to win a wide range of prizes. With a prize pool exceeding $4600 and a top prize of an iPad mini, kindly donated by Barfoot and Thompson, this is not a night to be missed! Food and drink will be provided, but feel to bring your own snacks and drinks. Tickets are on sale both online here and at the Uniform Shop at $10 a ticket or $90 for a full table of ten.
Tickets for Gala Concert are available from Student Services at Westlake Boys or from the Music Department at Westlake Girls:

What: “Finding Guyland – The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men”. An evening with international teen parenting expert, author and TED Talk presenter, Michael Kimmel
When: Monday 7th August – Westlake Boys High School
Time: 7.00pm – 8.30pm
Price: $10 per ticket available online at Eventbrite
We are very fortunate to have secured the services of international teen parenting expert, author and TED talk presenter Michael Kimmel. Dr Kimmel authored the Amazon bestselling book “Guyland – The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men”. If you enjoyed Celia Lashlie’s “He’ll Be OK” and you value the principles of the “Good Man Project” that Celia championed, you’ll enjoy the evidence-based advice on “growing good men” that Michael has to offer.
Westlake PTA is kindly hosting this event for all parents in the Westlake community. Please spread the word amongst your friends and families – parents with children at other schools are welcome to come along.
A synopsis of Guyland the book:
“The passage from adolescence to adulthood was once clear. Today, growing up has become more complex and confusing, as young men drift casually through school and beyond—hanging out, partying, playing with tech toys, watching sports. But beneath the appearance of a simple extended boyhood, a more dangerous social world has developed, far away from the traditional signposts and cultural signals that once helped boys navigate their way to manhood—a territory Michael Kimmel has identified as “Guyland.” …. Only by understanding this world and this life stage can we enable young men to chart their own paths, stay true to themselves, and emerge safely from Guyland as responsible and fully formed male adults”.

Tickets for the Westlake Boys and Girls Production of ‘Sweeney Todd’ are selling fast! Don’t miss out!
You will be transported back to Victorian London where embittered barber, Sweeney Todd, forms an unlikely collaboration with pie-shop owner, Mrs Lovett, in a tale of love and longing, vengeance and vindication. Dark humour, matched with memorable music, make for a richly entertaining show. Our talented cast and crew are extremely proud of this production as they bring it to life with sharp intensity on stage.
Tuesday, 25th July is a special Gala Opening Night, when blood-red beverages and ‘canapies’ will be served from 6.45pm and you will have the opportunity to have your photo taken in THE barber’s chair (though we promise no real blood!) There will be a prize for the audience member with the best themed costume.
