Art students pulled out the stops this year with their artistic interventions around school for Cultural Week. A digital compilation of photography work was displayed all week in the street and senior photography students produced photographic light painting portraits a sample of which you see below.

By the end of the week the portraits became quite adventurous and experimental and fantastic images were made.

Sculptural Interventions

Cultural Week saw Sculpture students setting up temporary installations around the “street” and in the auditorium. Students used thousands of humble Post-It notes to create mosaics and a sculpture which certainly got people talking. We will never look at a Post-It note in the same way again.

North Shore Secondary School Art Awards 2010

Mairangi Arts Centre 29th June – 10th July

This year saw again the North Shore Secondary School Art Exhibition at Mairangi Arts Centre. Students from schools around the North Shore participated in the exhibition amongst which our students exhibited painting, photography and digital media. The exhibition was strong and a variety of original and exciting work was presented.

Students enjoyed the Art Opening where awards were presented and students were able to mingle with other young artists. Hyun-Do Sin was awarded a Merit Prize of $100 which was presented by a representative from Datacom and Andrew Williams, Mayor of North Shore City. A good evening was had by all and the department is proud of the outstanding work which was presented by our students.

We look forward to taking part next year and hope to keep receiving Art awards.
