Football – Westlake Hit Six in Cup Win

Westlake Boys 1st XI vs Northcote College 1st XI – Knock-Out Cup, second round 22nd June 2016

Westlake first XI advanced into the next round of the Knock-Out Cup scoring three goals in each half to beat Northcote College 6-0.

In wet conditions Westlake were on the front foot early and, after several close misses, Matt Conroy opened the scoring with a well taken goal. The home team doubled their lead soon after when Diprose lobbed the ball into the box and Drew Farnsworth’s header deceived the keeper who fumbled the ball into his own net. Daniel Lough had time to hit the bar from distance before Westlake scored their third as Farnsworth tapped home from 5 yards from an unchallenged corner kick.

Northcote looked more organized in the second half and Westlake could not extend their lead until substitute Greg Nimmo capitalized on a mishit goal kick to lob the keeper for 4-0. Farnsworth had the last say with two quick goals, courtesy of through balls from Lough and Rungpao, to take the score to 6-0. Westlake’s next match is premier league fixture, away at MAGS this Saturday, 12 noon kick off.
