Prefects 2017


Senior Prefects

Our Head Boy for 2017 is Blake Nicholson of MU06. Blake is a top CIE student with 6 A*s and 1 A at IGCSE, 4 A grades at AS Level and Excellence in Level 1 Music. He is Premier Sailing Captain, he sings in Voicemale, Choralation and Barbershop and he plays in Concert Band and Concordia. His goals for the year are to maintain high academic grades, achieve success in Sailing and Music at a national level, to give back to Westlake and to encourage younger students to get involved. Deputy Head Boy, Jason Churches of SM04, achieved Excellence endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. An outstanding swimmer, Jason is a New Zealand representative, the National Age Group Champion for 200m backstroke and he holds the school record for 100m and 200m backstroke. He aims to lead the school Swimming team to a third national title in a row and to increase the amount of supporters at Westlake sports fixtures.
   
Kyle Shears of MU05 is a Deputy Head Boy for 2017. Kyle is an outstanding CIE scholar with A* and A grades in all his IGCSE, AS and A level exams. He is a talented sportsman, playing in the Premier Water Polo, Swimming and Golf teams. He wants to be a positive role model to all students and to make the most of his last year at Westlake. Academic Captain, Winston Yao of ST10, is an outstanding CIE scholar, with an extraordinary 11 A* and 5 A grades. He is a New Zealand representative in Karate, and a member of the Premier Chess and Advanced Premier Debating teams and the Academic Council. His objective is to help students become more confident in sitting their internal and external exams.
 
Cultural Captain is David Lin of HD10. A top CIE student with numerous A* and A grades, David is involved in a broad range of school activities, including Voicemale, Social Football, the Forrest Hill Reading Programme, Advanced Premier Debating and Peer Tutoring. He also sits on the Academic and Careers Councils and is Model UN Ambassador. He wants to encourage junior students to become more involved in extra-curricular activities.

Sports Captain is Finlay Brewis of ST07. A meritorious NCEA student, Finlay is passionate about rugby. He plays in the 1st XV, Sevens and 10s for Westlake and is an Auckland representative, playing for the Blues U17 & U18’s Teams. His goals are to maintain his academic standards and to play Rugby at a national level for New Zealand School Boys.

 House Captains

   
Ethan Martin of TWP1 is Pupuke House Captain. Ethan achieved Excellence endorsement at NCEA Level 2. He is in the Premier Basketball team and the Kapa Haka group. He aims to achieve Excellence endorsement at Level 3 and to help the Premier Basketball team to gain a national title. Jarrod Ferguson of ST02 is Stanley House Captain. A Merit-endorsed student at NCEA Levels 1 and 2, Jarrod is Premier Volleyball Captain. He is also coach for a junior volleyball team and has played Rugby every year at Westlake. He aims to be a strong role model and to lead the Premier Volleyball team to retain the National Title.

Caleb Macdonald of SM08 is Smale House Captain. Caleb is a Merit-endorsed NCEA student who has played Premier Rugby League for two years. He also plays Rugby Union, Sevens and Touch. He wants to encourage younger students to participate in a variety of school activities. Logan Rainey of HD08 is Hood House Captain. Logan is a top CIE scholar with several A* and A grades. He has taken advantage of all the opportunities he could at Westlake, including taking part in Premier Advanced Debating, Waterpolo, Social Football, Careers Council, Duke of Edinburgh, Future Problem Solving and a conservation trip to Indonesia. He wants to contribute to success in Premier Debating, while assisting younger pupils’ transition to Westlake life.
   
Dylan Maynard of MU03 is Murchison House Captain. He is a top grade CIE scholar who is a keen rowing coxswain. He is also a Premier Advanced Debater and achieved Merit in the NZ Secondary Schools Chinese short film and Chinese Speech Competitions in 2016. His objective is to maintain Westlake’s excellent reputation and ensure that the younger students are encouraged to get involved. Reuben Fitzgerald of UR07 is Ururoto House Captain. Reuben gained an impressive 99 Excellence credits at L1 and 113 excellence credits at L2.  One of our most talented sportsmen, he is a member of our 1st X1 Cricket team, 1st X1 Football team and Premier Basketball team. Hence, his goal is to win national titles in all these sports.

Azarish Ali of SM11 is a CIE student who has achieved A and B grades at IGCSE and AS Level. He is a member of Choralation, Voicemale, Concert Band and a Barbershop quartet and is one of our Pasifika leaders. He also plays Squash and Basketball. He would like to encourage involvement with cultural activities. Holden Bai of PK02 is an International student who has achieved Merit and Excellence endorsements at NCEA Level 1 and 2. He is involved in Small Bore Shooting, Touch and Distance Running and is active on the Asian Volunteering Group, Environment and Careers Councils. His objective is to be a positive role model. Matt Bruce of ST09 is a member of Voicemale and Choralation Choirs and has taken part in three school productions. He is active on the Charity and Media Councils and the Forrest Hill Primary Reading Programme. He intends to be a good role model while immersing himself fully in Westlake culture.
     
 Connor Charlesworth of MU08 has achieved Excellence endorsements at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He will be playing his third lead role in this year’s production, as ‘Sweeney Todd’. He is a member of Voicemale and Choralation and plays in the Social Football league. His aim this year is to try new things. Jiawei Chen of MU09 is an International student who achieved Excellence in Level 2 Art Design. He plays Social Football and his goals for the year are to challenge himself and help other international students. Joshua Chin of SM01 is a top CIE student with numerous A* and A grades at IGCSE, AS and A level, whose goal is to maintain these high standards. He has made a valued contribution to community groups including Auckland City Mission, the Environment and Charity Councils and as a Peer Tutor.
     
Yea Kang Chu of PK08 has gained excellent grades at both CIE and NCEA. He is a member of the Football Sports Institute and Distance Running team and a football referee. He is on the Korean Night organising committee and aims to create a positive environment for new Korean students as well as achieving Excellence endorsement for NCEA Level 3. Joseph Clark of SM07 achieved NCEA Levels 1 and 2 endorsed with Excellence. He is our 2017 Distance Running Captain and has competed at International level in Road, Track and Cross Country Running. He wants to achieve Level 3 NCEA Endorsed with Excellence, win an individual national title and win national titles with the Distance Running Team. Caleb Clayton of UR01 is a top CIE student who has participated in a wide range of activities, including Social Football, Table Tennis, Petanque, Debating, Enviro Council, Future Problem Solving and Young Enterprise Scheme. As head of the French Language Council, he wants to contribute to Westlake’s cultural experience, encourage language study and help new students’ integration into the school.
     
Clarke Foulds of UR12 achieved Merit endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He has been a member of the 1st XI Football team since Year 11 and played for New Zealand Secondary Schools in 2016. He was also part of the North Harbour and Auckland Athletics Champions team in 2015 and 2016. He wants to help the 1st XI achieve success at Nationals this year. Lawrence Gao of PK11 is one of our highest achieving CIE students with 8 A*s and 4 A grades at IGCSE and AS Level. He is a member of various teams and groups including Distance Running, Orienteering, Tennis, Premier Debating and Careers Council. His objective is to be a positive role model. Uwais Hussein of MU02 is a Merit-endorsed NCEA student at both Levels. He is a member of the Careers and Media Councils, a librarian and a debater. He also plays Cricket and Table Tennis and his goal is to be a supportive and approachable peer for younger students.
     
Matt Jacobi of SM11 achieved Excellence endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He has been in the Premier Sailing team since Year 10, played Sports Institute Rugby and was in the 2016 Premier Touch team. He aims to achieve Excellence at Level 3 and to help the Premier Sailing team achieve success this year.  Marco Javate of SM02 achieved Merit endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He is a volunteer in several community groups and helped with the Cyclone Winston Relief project. He sings in Voicemale and plays Table Tennis. Marco aims to achieve subject Excellence endorsement at Level 3. Kunj Joshi of SM03 is a high-achieving CIE student with 5 A* and 6 A grades at IGCSE and AS Level. Kunj is on the Environment and Cultural Councils and a part of the Indian Cultural Group. He also helps with the Forrest Hill Reading Programme. He aims to achieve the best grades he can while actively taking part in school life.
     
Benjamin Jury of MU03 is an Excellence-endorsed student at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He is our Rowing Captain this year and he hopes to take the rowing team to success, winning as many medals as possible at Maadi Cup, while pursuing Excellence endorsement at Level 3. Baylee Katipa of TWK2 is an NCEA student who achieved Level 1 with Merit. He has played in the 1st XV Rugby team since 2015, the Premier Touch team and the Northern Maori U18 Rugby team. He aims to achieve Merit or Excellence endorsement at Level 3 and to help the 1st XV achieve the national title. Campbell Knowles of M04 has achieved all A* and A grades at IGCSE, AS and A levels. A versatile sportsman, he is a member of the 1st X1 Cricket, Premier Waterpolo, Adventure Racing and Senior Open Debating teams. He wants to help the Waterpolo team achieve success at Nationals and his team to win the Social Football league.
     
William Page of ST08 is a solid CIE student who captains the Premier Lacrosse team and the New Zealand U18 team. He has been involved in two school productions, UNICEF and the Languages Council. He aims to improve his academic achievements and grow school spirit and pride.  Gautam Pathumanithy of SM07 is a top CIE scholar with 10 A* grades, and an all-rounder. Gautam is a talented musician involved in numerous music ensembles and a semi-finalist in Westlake’s Got Talent. He is a Peer Tutor, Duke of Edinburgh Gold participant and member of the Enviro Council. He aims to be approachable and helpful to his peers. Ryan Quinn of SM07 is a Merit-endorsed NCEA student. Ryan has achieved success at both Cricket and Hockey for several years. He is 1st XI Cricket Captain and an Auckland rep and he is a member of the 1st XI Hockey team. He hopes both teams will become national champions this year, with the 1st XI Hockey team winning the Rankin Cup.
     
Oliver Ray-Chaudhuri of UR10 achieved Excellence endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He is a member of our Premier Track and Field, Distance Running and 2016 NZ Road Running Senior 6 Man Champion teams. He is also involved in Future Problem Solving and Young Enterprise Scheme. His goal is to have a positive influence throughout the school. Ryan Schierhout of MU06 achieved Excellence endorsement at Level 1 and Merit at Level 2 NCEA. He is a member of the 1st XI Cricket team and an Auckland representative and his goal is to win Cricket nationals. Casey Smith of TWP1 achieved Excellence at both Levels 1 and 2 NCEA. He is a member of the 1st XV Rugby team and the Premier Touch team. His goals are to help the 1st XV gain their first ever national title and to maintain his academic record, attaining Excellence at Level 3.
     
Netesh Sukha of UR08 gained A* and A grades at IGCSE and Excellence at NCEA Level 2. He is captain of the Hockey 1st XI and hopes to help them win the Rankin Cup this year, as he did in 2015. He also plays Social Football and he hopes to attain Excellence at Level 3. Matthew Thornton of SM10 is a strong CIE student with numerous A*s at IGCSE. He plays in the 1st XI Cricket team and 3rd XI Football team. He also plays Social Football and manages the Social Football facebook page. He would like to make a meaningful contribution to the school, especially in the area of languages. Tahlequah Tiakia of UR04 attained Merit endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2. He is a member of the Kapa Haka group and performed at Polyfest, as well as playing Rugby. He wants to be a good role model for others and to help the Kapa Haka group move up a division this year.
     
Cale Tu’inukuafe of MU05 has attained all A* and A grades at IGCSE, AS and A Levels. He is a member of the 2nd XV North Harbour Rugby Champion team and plays Touch, Sevens, Basketball and Social Football. Like his brothers he is also involved in Taro Patch. He plans to encourage others to make the most of their opportunities and to enjoy his last year at Westlake. Jackson Tu’inukafe of MU11 is a solid CIE student who plays a range of sports, including Sevens, Touch, Basketball and Social Football and he is a member of the 2nd XV North Harbour Rugby Champion team. Like his brothers, he is a Basketball coach and also involved in Taro Patch. He wants to set a good example to others through hard work and dedication. Max Tu’inukafe of MU03 achieved numerous A* and A grades in his CIE exams. Like his two brothers, he is a member of the 2nd XV North Harbour Rugby Champion team and plays Social Football, Basketball, Touch and Sevens. He is also involved in Taro Patch. He wants to make a positive contribution to the school.
     
Andrew Wickens of HD12 has gained an impressive 6A* and 5A grades in his CIE exams. He plays Cricket and Ultimate Frisbee. He also does Robotics, is a Peer Tutor and sits on the Enviro and Careers Councils. His objectives are to achieve A* and A grades in his A Levels and make the school a better place. Sean Yang of HD08 is one of our top CIE scholars with 8 A* and 5A grades in his CIE exams and an Outstanding Scholarship in Music. He performs in Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band and Voicemale, is a Premier Advanced Debater and sits on the Chinese Night Committee and Languages Council. He plans to continue to serve the school, while also focusing on his academic studies. Matt Bullock of PK04 has achieved Merit endorsement at NCEA Levels 1 and 2 and aims to achieve this at Level 3.  He has been a leading member of our drama productions over the past two years, where he has made a significant contribution.  Matt also does Performance Poetry and has sat on the Media Council.
     
Cameron Dagger of MU03 is a solid CIE student with numerous A* and A grades.   His aim is to achieve more top grades this year.  Cameron has been involved in a number of activities during his time at school, including Duke of Edinburgh, Robotics and Peer Tutoring. Millan Keshaw of ST09 is a CIE student who was awarded two scholarships in Year 12.  He has participated in a number of sports, is a Peer Tutor and sits on the Charities Council. Millan would like to continue to help the school community. Hyunsang Lim of HD06 is an able CIE student who is involved in numerous activities, including Debating, Water Polo, Dragon Boating, Duke of Edinburgh and Social Football. One of his goals is to raise funds for the  UNICEF group, of which he is a member.
