Each year in late September the Westlake Snowboard team competes in the North Island Schools Snowboard Championships at Turoa Ski Field, Mount Ruapehu.
The competition is the largest of its kind in New Zealand. The tournament consists of three snowboarding disciplines: Slalom, Slope-style and Boarder-cross. Westlake’s performance over the years has been outstanding with four top three placings in the last eight years and our best ever result, 1st in 2009 and 2011 with 3rd place in 2013 and 2014, narrowly missing out on a podium finish in 2015 gaining 4th place overall.
In 2011 we won the Auckland Snowboarding competition and in 2012 two competitors took out the Slopestyle event gaining 1st and 2ndplacings. We also compete in the Auckland Snowsport’s Competition with the Ski team and in 2013, 2014 and 2015, 2016 we gained 2nd place overall.
