476765Welcome to Westlake Boys High School Football. We have a large number of students playing the sport at school and consistently have 25-30 teams playing across all grades and all age groups. At all levels of the game, Westlake teams compete with dedication, enthusiasm and commitment. We have had significant success throughout all of the grades we play in, including National Championships, Knock-Out Cups and League titles. Our 1st XI were runners up both in Auckland and New Zealand in the 2014 competition.

Our most recent junior successes have come in the Auckland Knock-Out Cup competitions, winning the U15 trophy in 2012 and both U13 and Senior Cups in 2013.

Alongside our football teams, we also run a football Academy of Sport programme during school time – this is an open trial for all talented Year 9 and 10 footballers where the focus is upon developing skills, game related behaviours and football specific fitness. We are especially proud of our players that move from the Academy to our First XI and beyond. At the start of 2015 four Westlakers (old boys) were selected for the All Whites squad for the match against South Korea, including 2014 1st XI Football and Sports Captain Sam Brotherton, Moses Dyer and Deklan Wynne. In 2014 six Westlakers represented New Zealand in the U20 World Cup Squad. Westlake students Sean Skeens and Luke Johnson will represent New Zealand at the upcoming U17 World Cup in Chile.

We have also had numerous players who have played at a high level in the professional game in Europe, Asia and the USA, including current All White’s Captain – Tommy Smith.

In 2015 we also extended our overseas football experience, with  30 junior students taking to Sydney, Australia for a tour that included A League coaching and trainings at the FFA New South Wales High Performance Centre.

This was built upon a very exciting 2014 tour that saw Westlake’s football programme embark on a once in a lifetime trip to the UK and Spain, where the boys enjoyed spending time with coaches and players of Manchester City FC, Fulham FC, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Espanyol and Valencia CF, watched EPL games and toured the new Wembley Stadium.

IMG_5217Our grateful thanks is extended to all of the staff who coach in our programme as they are essential to all of our successes. Games will include Saturday competition fixtures in Auckland, mid-week games, Chatham Cup fixtures and exchanges. Trainings and matches take place on grass as well as on the newly opened cork based artificial turf. At the end of the season, our elite team will go to the National Tournament.

Westlake has a proud football tradition including a trio of national titles. Our aim is always to be the best we can be, improve the skills of every player and despite the end result of each game, play with dignity, respect and a positive attitude.

The 2016 season will start in late April/early May after a series of trials, training and friendlies. All players are to ensure that they follow the correct dress code (your coach will advise you of this), all required items are available from the Uniform Shop
