Westlake Boys High School Cricket 1st XI – 2015

Westlake Boys Cricket currently fields 10 teams playing at a variety of levels from the 1st- 4th XI and Colts 1-3, to our senior and junior social teams playing in Auckland Competitions in Terms 1 and 4. Registration takes place in February each year. Eight cricket nets, three artificial wickets and our main grass wicket oval provide numerous matches for all our teams. All our merit teams are coached by highly qualified teachers who dedicate their time and expertise in developing our players at all levels. In addition, cricket also runs a successful Academy of Sport programme for talented junior players.

Most of our merit players are selected for the North Harbour District teams and many go on to be selected for the Auckland regional team. Five Westlake Boys’ cricketers represented Auckland in the U17 team in January 2015 with Keegan Russell being named in the New Zealand U17 Tournament team.

The highlight of the cricket calendar proves to be the annual exchanges with Christchurch Boys and Tauranga Boys College as well as the bi-annual overseas tours. Our junior team regularly tours Australia while our senior team undertakes regular tours to South Africa, with the 2016 tours in its planning phase. Cricket remains a popular traditional sport at Westlake, succeeding in forming many friendships and helping the boys develop a sense of discipline and learn many of life’s lessons.
