To provide our boys the opportunity to experience competition at an International level, a group of top and development runners will tour South Africa and Kenya in 2018, the eight time over the last ten years, which will once again be an experience of a lifetime for our boys.

The boys get selected at the end of year 9 based on their commitment to the programme – not ability. During the tour, the boys will spend two weeks in Cape Town, Gauteng and Mpumalanga where they will get the opportunity to measure themselves against South African opposition.

The final week of the tour the team will travel to Iten, Kenya. Iten, also known as the “Home of Champions” is a village 2450m above sea level. The village has a population of 4000 of which 3000 are professional runners. Iten is the training base for most the top Kenyan runners.

To identify, nurture and motivate we also organise a Distance Running Training Camp for our Year 9 boys in April every year. The school coaches offer guidance and training that are suited to all levels of ability and experience. While training and competition is always encouraged, promoting an active lifestyle and improvement in track and field throughout the entire year is the main priority.

Distance Running Training takes place on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school and also on a Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7.15am.

Teachers in charge: Mr M Butler (Athletics) and Mr T Strydom (Cross Country and Road Running)
