The PTA provides a link between the wider Westlake community and the school.

We facilitate opportunities for parents and caregivers to get to know each other better and to be involved at school. Our goals are to organise functions which are fun, interesting, and appealing to parents, and to provide a voice for parents.

The PTA raises funds to support projects which benefit the school community and the students. Most of our funds are earned through running the Second Hand Uniform Shop – the Trading Post – and various events during the year.

We work in co-operation with and provide assistance to the school where we can. We are a volunteer, non-profit organisation, a registered charity and operate under the umbrella of the NZPTA. Joining us is a great opportunity to get to know more about the school, to meet new people and form friendships. You can be involved as little or as much as you like and we welcome parents, caregivers and teachers to come to our meetings and events.

Second Hand Uniform Shop – Trading Post


This is a service provided by the PTA for parents/students to sell items of uniform they have outgrown or no longer require.

From Term 4 2017, the Shop opening time will change from Tuesdays to Fridays from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. We are in the Student Services Centre, two doors along from the new uniform shop. During January the sales will be held in the auditorium.

The Second-Hand Uniform shop will be open in January as follows:

  • Wednesday 24th January 10-1pm
  • Thursday 25th January 10-1pm
  • Friday 26th January 10-12pm

We need volunteers to help on these days and during the year.  Please email Robyn Dean [email protected]. If you can spare a couple of hours.

Items for sale can be dropped off any time this year or on the 22nd and 23rd January (In the auditorium). Please download and complete the form here. Please note the uniform shop can no longer accept XXS or S grey polo shirts, or XXS green jackets.

We can only accept CASH or CHEQUES and EFTPOS (During January only)

The PTA retains 35% of the sale price received for the items sold on behalf of school families and proceeds are donated to the school towards specific, usually student-related, projects. Alternatively, items can be donated, and are gratefully received.

We do not accept socks or Sports Institute (or Academy of Sport) shirts, shorts or basketball singlets, XXS or S grey polo shirts, or XXS green jackets.

During the school year if you wish us to sell your uniform on your behalf, please drop it off at the main school office, or bring it to the Shop during our open hours. You will need to complete a form providing us with your contact and bank account details. Please download and complete the form here, or available when you drop the items off.

2017 PTA Activities

There are a number of school events at which the PTA provides assistance. These are always fun, and a good opportunity to meet new people.

Welcome to Westlake Evening – Thursday 9th February 2017
The PTA hosts a supper following the information evening presentation for parents who are new to the school.

PTA members provide supper for parents who need sustenance in between teacher interviews!

Open Evening (for 2018 incoming students and families) – Thus 3rd August 2017
PTA provides refreshments at the Annual Open Evening. This is a good opportunities for parents to network and ask questions about the school in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

Grandparents’ Day Morning Tea –  Friday 4th August 2017

Grandparents’ Day is a particularly popular community event and we look forward to another opportunity to welcome the grandparents this year.

Staff Morning Tea
Close to the end of each school year, the PTA hosts a morning tea to recognise the important contribution of all staff. This is always enthusiastically received. As well as providing delicious treats, we also present each member of staff with a small gift (donated by parents). For the past three years, we have managed to present gifts to the entire 200+ staff and teachers.

Westlake Boys Graduation Dinner – Friday 1st December 2017
PTA members assist in the setting up of this formal dinner held in the Auditorium for 2017 Westlake leavers and their parents.

End of Year PTA Dinner
The end of year PTA Pot Luck Dinner, hosted at a committeeperson’s home, has become a valuable PTA tradition and is a great way to mark the end of our year’s efforts that involve meeting almost every month and working together consistently.

2016 WBHS PTA Donates $20,000 towards New Gymnasium

Michelle Johannsen PTA chairperson presents s cheque for $20,000 to the Westlake Foundation chairman Graham Darlow

Westlake Foundation Chairman Graham Darlow was suitably elated and surprised when newly appointed PTA President Michelle Johannson presented him with a cheque for $20,000 at the annual PTA-hosted ‘Meet the School Leaders’ wine and cheese evening on 14 March 2016.

The $20,000 donation represented the PTA’s contribution towards the capital project campaign run by Westlake Foundation for the school’s newly opened Gymnasium. More than 120 school families and Westlakers have contributed to the campaign so far and all donors are acknowledged on the plaques and honours boards displayed in the Gymnasium.

The sizeable PTA donation represented proceeds from sales through the school’s second hand uniform shop – an operation that is run voluntarily by a small group of dedicated PTA parents led by Donna Houghton.
